Chair of the Board of Trustees (Volunteer – Unpaid)

Location: Hybrid (most meetings are virtual, but some in person would be desirable)

Commitment: Approximately 10/12 days per annum

Term: 4 years, renewable once

Closing date: 21st June 2026

About Us

The Centre for ADHD and Autism Support (CAAS) is to support, educate and empower individuals diagnosed with ADHD or who are autistic, their families and the community. Through raising awareness we change perceptions and break down barriers. We are at an exciting stage of our development and are seeking an experienced, values-driven individual to take on the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees.

This is a voluntary role that offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by guiding the strategic direction, governance, and long-term sustainability of the charity.

The Role

The Chair provides leadership to the Board of Trustees and works closely with the Chief Executive to ensure the charity is well-governed, financially sound, and delivering on its charitable objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing effective leadership to the Board and ensuring it fulfils its legal and strategic responsibilities

• Setting the agenda for Board meetings and ensuring robust, inclusive decision-making

• Acting as a critical friend and line manager to the Chief Executive

• Ensuring strong governance, compliance, and risk management

• Supporting the charity’s strategic development, reputation, and external relationships

• Championing the charity’s values, mission, and beneficiaries

About You:

We are looking for someone who:

• Has previous Board-level experience (Chair or senior Trustee experience desirable)

• Demonstrates strong leadership, facilitation, and influencing skills

• Understands the responsibilities and legal duties of charity trustees

• Is able to commit the time and energy required to lead an effective Board

• Shares a passion for our cause and values

Experience in areas such as strategy, finance, transformation, fundraising, health, social care, education, or the voluntary sector would be welcomed, but lived experience and diverse perspectives are equally valued.

Time Commitment

The role is expected to require:

• Attendance at 6 Board meetings per year (virtually)

• An AGM annually

• A board strategy day annually

• Occasional ad-hoc meetings

• Regular contact with the Chief Executive (virtually and on occasions in person is desirable)

Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in line with the charity’s expenses policy.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion:

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board and warmly encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, particularly those currently under-represented at trustee level.

How to Apply

Please submit:

• A brief covering statement outlining your interest and suitability for the role

• Submit your CV

Applications should be sent to: [email protected]

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact us at [email protected] to arrange a mutually convenient time for a telephone call.

What skills do I need?

The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of board-level governance within a commercial or purpose-driven enterprise, complemented by previous experience as a Chair in the voluntary sector or a minimum of six years as a strategic trustee.

Just as critically, they must demonstrate exceptional, adaptive leadership with a deeply ingrained neuro-affirmative posture to champion, elevate, and amplify the voices of neurodivergent individuals.
