Mentoring Young People with Refugee or Asylum Seeker Status

Hope for the Young

Since 2008, Hope for the Young have been promoting education and working alongside young refugees to achieve their potential through mentoring, advocacy, and financial support.

We are looking for amazing people to become a mentor to a young person seeking sanctuary in the UK. You meet in person once per week for 1-3 hours in a public space (eg. library, cafe or park) and work on the young person's goals, for a period of 6 months.

Things you could help a young person with include: improving confidence, English practice, educational pathway support, getting a GP, improving a CV or getting a job ect.

Meetings can be flexible and travel and refreshment expenses are paid.

Why become a mentor with Hope for the Young?

By becoming a mentor with Hope for the Young, you will have the opportunity to transform a young person’s life in your local community. Our mentors work with their mentees each week to improve their English, enroll in education, access local services and activities, make new friends, and build the confidence and independence skills they need to settle into their new communities and reach their true potential.

If you are passionate about supporting young refugees to rebuild their lives in the UK and think you have what it takes to join our dedicated team of mentors at Hope for the Young, we would love to hear from you!

What skills do I need?

- Motivated by promoting the well-being of vulnerable young people.

- Willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
