About Harrow Women’s Centre
HWC is a registered charity and a limited company, so Board members have a dual role, as trustees and directors. HWC has provided support and services for local women since 1992. In August 2019, trustees took the difficult decision to close HWC’s premises in Harrow and pause service-provision, as the financial commitments of the former operating model were no longer viable. Since then, we have gone through a process of re-structuring and public consultation. We have adopted a new operating model, which will enable HWC to plan for the future, from a more resilient and economical base. The new operating model has a new working name - Resourceful Women’s Network (RWN).
However, “Harrow Women’s Centre” remains the name under which we are registered at the Charity Commission and Companies House. Services previously included 1) support on issues such as legal rights, employment, DV, childcare, welfare rights, financial issues, discrimination; 2) counselling; 3) support groups, training, and discussion groups; 4) social/leisure activities for women & girls. With a new operating model, we are considering new ways to deliver the services local women want and need so this is an especially interesting time to join HWC’s Board and get involved with the development of Resourceful Women’s Network and the services which will be delivered.
Harrow Women’s Centre is looking for:
• General trustees: applications for this role are welcome from any women who want to play an active part in the leadership of HWC. In particular we are interested in someone with skills in fundraising, social media/IT and HR. If you do not have these specific skills, we are still interested in hearing from you.
• Treasurer / Assistant Treasurer: someone with a background in financial control, who could oversee the book- keeper and ensure that the Board understand the finances and can make informed decisions.
Trustees are subject to an enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check. Recruitment is open to women only (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1). Harrow Women’s Centre values diversity, & welcomes applicants from all sections of the community.
If you are interested in this opportunity to become a Trustee with Harrow Women’s Centre, and join a board of like-minded women, please send a CV to The Chair via email: [email protected]
Criteria:
• An empathy for and commitment to HWC’s aims, objectives and values
• Willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort (Board meetings are held once a month, on zoom. A minimum attendance of two thirds of meetings is required for the Trustee role)
• Integrity and loyalty to the organisation

• Independent judgement
• Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively and to take part in discussions
• Ability to think strategically and creatively
