Harrow Council
Purpose of the Role: To support isolated or housebound individuals by providing friendly social interaction during visits to their private homes, sheltered accommodation and care homes. The role helps improve wellbeing and reduce loneliness through meaningful conversation and companionship.
Key Responsibilities
• Visit housebound individuals with the guidance and support of the librarian.
• Engage in friendly conversation and active listening.
• Encourage social connection and help reduce feelings of isolation.
• Provide extra feedback to coordinators where additional support needs are identified.
• Conduct wellbeing survey
• Maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality at all times.
• Provide case study/feedback

Time Commitment
• Flexible, typically 1-2 hours per visit.
• Regular visits are encouraged to build rapport but subject to progress and compatibility.
Training & Support
• Induction and ongoing support from the Volunteer Coordinator.
• Guidance on safeguarding, boundaries and signposting.
