Volunteer drivers for wheelchair users

Barbara Bus Fund

Welcome to the Barbara Bus Fund, a charity set up in 1968 by Barbara Werndly, herself a long term wheelchair user to provide transport for people unable to get out and about in the community.

Today we have a fleet of wheelchair accessible vehicles for people to use to enable them to enjoy the places and events that they would otherwise miss. This might be to visit friends and family, attend important appointments or visit the shops or local places of worship. Some of our passengers have been inside their homes unable to leave without someone to drive them and in a vehicle that accommodates their wheelchair.

If you have some time on your hands and would like to get out and meet people, be part of this amazing charity and provide this unique and fulfilling service, please get in touch with us at the contact details below. It is a fully flexible role, you do as many or as few drives as you like and there are no weekly demands or commitments. Full training and induction is provided and there are meet ups and catch ups with our welcoming and fun team.

What skills do I need?

Have a friendly approachable manner and good communication skills.

Hold a clean driving licence (no more than 6 points).

Are over 25 years old.

Have a desire to help others and support vulnerable people in the local area.
